Ingredients

Scale

For the Sauce:

  • 500g ground pork or beef
  • 3 tbsp cooking oil
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 cups banana ketchup (Jufran or UFC is ideal)
  • 1 can (250g) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese (plus more for topping)
  • 3 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 cup water or beef broth
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

For the Hotdogs:

  • 6 pieces of Filipino-style red hotdogs (or any hotdog of your choice), sliced diagonally

For the Pasta:

  • 500g spaghetti noodles
  • Water for boiling
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 2 tbsp cooking oil

Instructions

1. Cook the Spaghetti Noodles

Bring a big pot of water to a boil, adding a pinch of salt and a drop of oil to improve the taste and prevent sticking. Once boiling, add the pasta noodles and cook them until they reach an al dente thickness, following the instructions on the box. After cooking, drain the noodles completely and set them away.

2. Ready the Hotdogs

Heat a frying pan in medium heat and cook the sliced hotdogs at least 5 minutes, or until they are lightly browning. Once cooked, set them aside.

3. Make the Sauce

In a large pot, heat oil over medium heat and sauté the onions until soft and clear. Add the garlic and cook until fragrant.

Stir in the ground meat and cook until it is cooked and no longer pink. Mix in the tomato paste, banana ketchup, and tomato sauce, ensure everything is mixed well. add with sugar, salt, and pepper, then add water or beef broth.

Let the mixture cook for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Slowly combine the reduced milk and grated cheese, allowing the sauce to simmer for another 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and the sauce turns smooth.

Finally, add the cooked hotdogs and slowly stir to mix.

4. Combine and Serve

Mix the cooked spaghetti noodles with the rich, creamy sauce, or serve the sauce ladled heavily over the noodles. For an extra touch of taste, garnish with more chopped cheese before serving.

Notes

For real sweetness, use banana ketchup sauce and add sugar to taste. To make it creamier, add more cheese or heavy cream. Enjoy this popular Filipino comfort food!
